Day 10:
Did you know shinigami really like apples?
I’ve blindly bought many, many DVDs in my time, but none have been more worth the gamble than Death Note. Positive buzz prompted me to pick up the first DVD, and I was glad I did. From the very beginning, Light’s quest for a “perfect” world caught hold of my interest and hasn’t let up since.
I can’t really comment on the series as a whole just yet, since I’m waiting for discs 8 and 9 to arrive, but I can say I love this fucking show. The intensity of the cat and mouse game between Light and L… Misa… The cold, methodical way Light handles every situation… Misa… Even the dub is awesome. Did I mention Misa?
Day 11:
I may not remember love, but I’ll remember Macross.
Nostalgia hits everyone differently. For me, it’ll always be G.I.Joe, Transformers, and to a lesser extent He-Man and Voltron. Notice Robotech isn’t on that list? That’s because I remember seeing the occasional episode here and there, but I never caught it enough to feel nostalgic for it.
It wasn’t until this year that I found out Robotech was composed of three different series, one of them being Macross. Curiosity took over until I found myself owning all seven volumes of the ADV release of SDF Macross.
For an older show, this holds up nicely (unlike, say Thundercats), and I enjoyed the new dub track as well. I found myself caught up in the love triangle enough to be rooting for Ayase to “win”.
Of course, the show is not without its flaws, and I still think Roy’s death was exceptionally lame, but this series has won a place amidst my “shelf of favorites”.
