I like Shuffle! Wait… what?!
I had seen the series on the shelf at Best Buy many times, and many times I passed it without a second glance, imagining its sunflowery cover imagery was indicative of a “girly” show that I probably wouldn’t like. It wasn’t until later that I noticed the buzz.
Good thing the series isn't as flowery as this art!
It seemed immensely popular with forum-users, and I think it had even been a Pick of the Week once or twice. Curiosity got the better of me so I asked for recommendations. Some loved the series, and others hated it. I chose the safe route and borrowed the discs from Netflix.
By the end of the first disc, I was hooked. Yes, it was a harem series, but it reminded me of Tenchi Muyo (a personal favorite). While harem series aren’t terribly original, this title had an interesting spin: a shared world between demons, gods, and humans.
So, what’s there to like about this?
- Cute girls.
- Fanservice.
- Pretty good dub.
- Gods & Demons (magic).
- Mystery.
- Dramatic tension – This is the first harem series I’ve seen where the protagonist actually agonizes over the choice he must make.
Did I mention fanservice?
