Long before I thought of myself as otaku, I was a fanboy (basically, an American version of otaku for comic books and related media). I have G.I.Joe to blame thank for that. Growing up in the 80s, I was inundated with a variety of action figures and the animated series they spawned, so it was only natural that I would discover the existence of G.I.Joe comic books. Hell, they actually had commercials on TV!
The discovery of comic books based on my favorite cartoons and toy lines lead to the discovery of comic book specialty shops, where characters like Batman and Spider-man took hold of my imagination, refusing to let go for many years to come.
There’s still a part of me that maintains an interest in the American mythology that is the superhero, and I was reminded of this while aimlessly surfing the web the other day, and saw these pictures.
They’re anime re-imaginings of superheroes from the DC Universe. I think it’s a fantastic idea, and these look great! There are many more, but these are some of my favorites, especially Huntress. Yeah, no surprise there, being the Batman fan that I am. That reminds me, I still need to watch Gotham Knight!
The Ame•Comi line of PVC statues are available from DC Direct, and retail for $50-60 each, which is unfortunate since I would love to collect some of them.
Maybe someday…
