I think I should stop shopping online

This morning, I found an email from an online retailer notifying me that a recent transaction had been denied. This isn’t the first time that’s happened. I’ve gotten a couple of those as cards reach their limits, but this time, I know the card still had a couple thousand left on it.

During my break, I called the credit card company to see what my available balance is and why this transaction would’ve been denied. I’m thinking it’s something stupid like I used the wrong expiration date or something. But no, the customer service woman informs me that there are some questionable transactions on my account that they would like verified.

Apparently, someone planned a trip to Switzerland at a travel agency and booked tickets on a Swiss airline on my account. I told the woman I knew nothing of those transactions (which were made Saturday). She put a block on the card, and issued me a new one. It will arrive in about ten days.

This is the second time I’ve had a card hijacked.

I have no idea where my information was stolen from, but I’d like to know so I never shop there again. Now I’m thinking, just to be on the safe side, I’ll only order from larger companies with secure reputations or maybe I just shouldn’t order at all.
