Against my better judgment, I forced myself to sit through this entire series, despite all of the criticisms, and negative comments it garnered. Ultimately, I was left with an “eh” feeling the entire time.
Ordinarily, I have no problems with magical girl shows or the tropes of the “genre”, but this series still felt weak. The whole magical girl aspect is based on this goofy little mechanical pet-thing called a “patapi”. They’re supposedly cute, but kind of obnoxious. There are a select few patapi that are capable of bonding with their owners. This bond allows them to morph into taller, bustier, and older versions of their owners with high tech suits of armor and the sudden ability to kick monster ass.
Once you get past all of the “monster of the week” crap, you get a chance to get to know the girls and watch their friendship evolve in uninteresting ways. Really, there’s not much to be said for these characters. I saw very little in them of interest. Maybe it’s because they’re like 13 years old or something. I don’t know.
There are far better anime out there. I recommend skipping this one.
