Athena walks the Earth in September

I have been interested in Greek mythology since I was first introduced to it in the sixth grade. It was the first time anything in school actually captured my attention. I think we only studied the Greek myths for a couple days during our Social Studies lessons, but I was determined to learn more.

What about those myths attracted me? I’m not sure. Maybe it was simply that the legends I read felt so similar to the fiction I was experiencing at the time. I was very aware of super heroes back then. Afterall, Spider-man and His Amazing Friends was on television before this. Maybe I recognized, subconsciously, that comic book heroes were very much like the Greek pantheon. Ultimately, what’s the difference between Hades kidnapping Persephone and Green Goblin whisking Gwen Stacy away to the Brooklyn Bridge? Not much, really.

And now we get to the point of this post.

CBR has a great article with the creators of the forthcoming four-issue series, Athena, from Dynamite Entertainment (who is slowly becoming one of my favorite publishers).

What’s that you say? Greek mythology and comic books come together with the beautiful art of Paul Renaud? Sold!

Yes, it’s that easy, folks. Publishers take heed.
