From the Fanboy Q: Robot Chicken Star Wars Episode II

Ordinarily, I would’ve just bought this DVD on its release date, but money’s gotten a lot tighter lately. So, instead of running right out and buying the latest releases, I’ve decided to Netflix them until such a time that I can afford to buy them.

If you’ve already seen the first Robot Chicken Star Wars special, then you know exactly what to expect with this one. However, there is a slight exception: this one’s not as funny.

I imagine this episode’s inferiority lies in the manner with which it was produced. Where the first episode was merely a compilation of already existing skits from the first season of Robot Chicken, this one seems to have been developed entirely from scratch as being first and foremost, a Star Wars special episode.

There’s also the additional through-line that focuses on the bounty hunters from Empire Strikes Back. This thematic unification seems to have a weakening effect on the overall quality of the show and its humor. Sure, there are funny bits, but really, what’s gonna top “What the hell’s an aluminum falcon?”

Nice ship. Not crazy about the name, though.

Billy Dee Williams reprises his role as Lando for a couple of bits, and even Carrie Fisher lends her voice to the occasional Leia scene. But, it’s really Breckin Meyer’s Boba Fett and Seth MacFarlane’s Emperor that steal the show.

If you’re a hardcore Star Wars fan, you’ll want to get your hands on this. If not, you’ll want to rent it.
