More old stuff

Years ago, I had re-dedicated myself to working in comics, and hung out on the best collaborative web site at the time, Digital Webbing. I posted an ad looking for writers because I thought it’d be better to work with a writer than try to write for myself.

The response was fantastic! My inbox was flooded with emails from a variety of writers wanting to work on a variety of projects. I picked out a handful of writers I wanted to do something with, and in some cases began brainstorming. The brainstorming led to developmental sketches.

Eventually, my enthusiasm started to sputter. I was drawing less and less, and I essentially flaked out on everyone (or they dropped me in favor of a more talented artist). I completed the couple projects I had started, and slowly lost touch with those writers.

One of those projects actually got published by a small fanzine in southern Ohio (I think). Here are those pages without the lettering. I have the lettered files stashed somewhere. Maybe I’ll share them some other time.

Surprisingly, there are a few things about these pages I like, but for the most part they make me cringe.

I had these pages critiqued by Bob McLeod. He gave me some great advice/suggestions, and even included plenty of overlays. He made it look way better, and made it look so damn easy.

If you are looking to learn more about the craft of drawing comics and can afford it, I strongly recommend getting in touch with Bob. His critiques were never harsh or mean (like I’ve heard about some pros), but he didn’t sugar-coat it either. He called it like he saw it, and I got my money’s worth.
