A friend and I went out last night searching for the Gotham City 5 box set from Mattel’s DC Universe Classics figure line. I got news that they had started appearing in Walmarts, and had hoped to grab one for myself since I don’t yet have a Two-Face, Catwoman, or a normal looking Superman figure yet.
We came up empty-handed at the nearest location, and moved on to another. This one was in the middle of remodeling, so it took a good ten minutes or so to figure out where the toy aisle had been moved to. Strangely enough, all of the toy merchandise was hidden away in what looks like it used to be the home and garden section of the store. Regardless, no sets were there, but I managed to find a 3.75″ Hobgoblin from the Marvel Universe line and my friend snagged a very hard to find Punisher figure from the last Marvel Legends build-a-figure assortment.
For shits and giggles we went across the road to Target and discovered the first wave of Marvel Universe Secret Wars comic book 2-packs. I was able to nab one of each. I can’t decide if I want to open them, though. I already have some variation of four out of the six figures in the packs. These might look nicer on display in their packages, especially after I collect all 12.
- SW #1: Klaw & Captain America
- SW #2: Human Torch & Wolverine
- SW #3: Thunderball & Spider-man
The photos above are from ActionFigurePics.com, a nifty site devoted to – you guessed it – action figure pictures! The site’s a little more than plastic eye candy, though. There are well-conceived reviews, and even coverage from the recent San Diego convention. I just found the site earlier today (while looking for photos for this post), and I’ve already signed up for their newsletter. Be sure to check ‘em out.
